About Smartsass
Smartsass is Jenna Kay’s fearless take on turning life’s hardest moments into something bold, honest, and a little bit witty. The album dives into the things we all think but don’t always say, like heartbreak, jealousy, confusion, independence, and growing pains, then she flips them on their head with humor and attitude.
Instead of breaking under pressure, Smartsass finds the punchline in the pain. It’s about taking the messy parts of life, the things that sting or frustrate you, and spilling them out in your music with confidence. There’s vulnerability in the lyrics, but there’s also fire. It’s emotional without being defeated, honest without being bitter. At its core, Smartsass is empowerment wrapped in wit and tying a bow around the chaos and owning your story with a smirk.
Take a deeper dive into the six songs that makeup this EP:
bitterhalf - a raw and emotionally charged anthem that explores the aftermath of a breakup, where one side rewrites the narrative. the frustration of watching an ex-partner spin lies to make himself look like the hero and paint the other as the villain. Despite being cast in a negative light, the protagonist remains composed and takes the high road, accepting that sometimes being the “bitter half” means letting the other side tell their story. It’s a song about quiet strength and the resilience of moving on.
poet- a sharp and witty track that takes aim at a guy who sees himself as a misunderstood genius, he is a self-proclaimed poet whose narcissism overshadows his reality. Jenna Kay calls out his drama-queen antics and his habit of blaming everyone else for failing to recognize his supposed brilliance. In reality, it’s his own fault that cost him his relationships, leaving him not just a bad lover, but as the lyrics Plainly put it, “the worst poet” of all. It’s a witty and empowering anthem that flips the script on self-important exes and reminds listeners that not every “poet” deserves a muse.
idk her - a powerful and defiant track where Jenna Kay confronts the outrageous lies spun by an ex who’s desperate to shift blame and reinvent the truth. In the aftermath of their breakup, he paints her as someone completely unrecognizable, someone who’s done all these terrible things that never happened. Jenna’s anthem declares that while he might be describing someone who looks like her, the person he’s created is a stranger. Jenna doesn’t recognize this fictional version of herself at all, so she boldly says, “I don’t know her.”
leftovers -a candid and clever track that tackles the sting of being someone’s second choice. In this song, Jenna Kay narrates the story of a guy who can’t win back the girl he truly wants, but decides to settle for what’s familiar instead. She becomes the “leftover,” the fallback option he returns to simply because he can’t have the original he’s pining for.
single -an honest and slightly bittersweet anthem that captures the awkwardness of realizing you were never more than just a friend in someone else’s eyes. Jenna Kay sings about the embarrassment of misreading those friendly vibes, thinking there might have been a spark, and then feeling that sting of disappointment when she realizes she was never even a “single thought” beyond friendship. It’s a track that speaks to anyone who’s ever felt a little foolish but ultimately finds strength in owning those feelings and moving on.
messy - a spirited declaration of self-acceptance wrapped in Jenna Kay’s signature wit. The song tells the story of someone whose life is full of chaos and who’s constantly being told she’s “crazy” or needs to get it together. But rather than feeling ashamed, she reclaims those labels, calling herself “just a little messy”. ” It’s a fun, defiant anthem for a
About Me
As a songwriter, Jenna Kay pulls from real life: messy breakups, toxic small-town dynamics, envy, resilience, and the awkward, beautiful chaos of being in your twenties. Her debut EP Icing on the Cake (2024) introduced listeners to that world through six emotionally charged tracks that explored love, heartbreak, and starting over. Since then she’s continued to expand her catalog with songs like “Mr. Good,” “Popsicle Stand,” and the cutting post-breakup anthem “If I Can’t.” Her upcoming work on her new EP album Smartsass (set for release February 2026) push even further into a bold, cinematic pop sound rooted in honesty and bite.
Jenna Kay’s branding is rooted in contrast and confidence, where bows and boots define a signature glam-meets-grit aesthetic. The bows are more than just cute. They represent her belief that we’re all connected by one common thread, tied together with care. To Jenna, a bow is a symbol of identity, of giving, and of strength hidden behind softness. The combat boots? They’re her armor, worn in every color, they remind her to stand strong, face the world with grit, and kick out the negativity. Her boots symbolize strength, independence, and the willingness to stand her ground. One of her most recognizable looks is pink camouflage bow, which serves as her personal salute to the military and the veteran friends in her life who model strength, discipline, and loyalty. Through her style and music, Jenna represents both the girl next door and the girl who refuses to be underestimated, the one who is kind but firm, relatable yet fearless. She isn’t afraid to speak her truth, stand up for herself, or say the things others are thinking but won’t say out loud. Her brand reflects an unapologetic honesty, proving that you can be soft, stylish, and strong all at once.
Raised in St. Louis and now based in Nashville, Jenna is a bold Gen Z voice unafraid to carve her own path. Forgoing the traditional college route, her family made the move to Nashville with full belief in her talent and relentless drive. And Jenna has proven them right, time and time again.
Trained in musical theater, dance, and voice since childhood, she’s a true triple threat who’s studied under some of the industry’s best, even completing Broadway intensives in New York. But her heart always came back to writing songs. A natural at both melody and lyrics, Jenna has crafted a signature pop sound that’s emotionally raw, lyrically sharp, and unmistakably her own.
At just 21, she’s already released nine original songs, with more on the way. She balances the grind of building her music career with a full-time job as a professional makeup artist—proving her work ethic matches her talent. Behind her music are stories of heartbreak, growing pains, ambition, and resilience—all told through a lens that’s unapologetically feminine and powerfully self-aware.
Jenna Kay is a pop artist with edge, elegance, and a message: you can be soft and strong, polished and powerful, broken and still brave. And she’s just getting started.
For Jenna Kay, this is just the beginning: a new kind of pop artist from Nashville, wrapped in pink bows, singing the truth at the top of her lungs.
